Oxford German Network success for Presdales girls!

Friday, 27 May 2016

The German department is delighted to announce the success of five girls in a recent national German language competition, run by the Oxford German Network! Sophie Molloy and Alice Mitchell O’Reilly (Year 9) and Jenny Rahner (Year 12) were awarded runners-up in the competition entitled Deutscher Humor – nichts zum Lachen? Mia Donnelly and Maddie Lacey’s (Year 10) entry was commended by the judges.

The Oxford German Network, run by the University of Oxford, invited entries on the theme of German humour. Sophie and Alice produced a comic strip entitled Der Werwolf, based on a story by Christian Morgenstern on grammatical cases in German, Jenny wrote a comic story, entitled Frau Merkwürdig fliegt nach England! and Mia and Maddie produced a profile on the famous musical comedian, Reggie Watts. Their work can be viewed on the Oxford German Network website: http://www.ogn.ox.ac.uk/olympiad-winners-2016.

Sophie, Alice and Jenny have been invited to attend a prize-giving ceremony to be hosted at the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford on Thursday 16th June – das ist eine große Ehre! Congratulations, ladies and we look forward to seeing your photographs! Well done to all those girls who took part – there is always next year’s competition … !
