Year 12 Travel and Tourism Trip to York

Friday, 27 November 2015

Twelve Year 12 Travel and Tourism students went with Mrs Fry and Mrs Dillon to York on the train and stayed overnight at the Youth Hostel. We had an action packed visit looking at the different kinds of tourism on offer and focusing particularly on customer services for the A Level  coursework. On Wednesday we had an open topped bus tour of the city with live commentary, a talk from the manager at the Visit York information centre, a brief visit to the National Railway Museum (comfy sofas to rest weary feet in there!), dinner back at the hostel and a Ghost tour of the city by night topped off with a hot chocolate before sleep. Thursday kicked off with a hearty breakfast followed by a talk at York Minster and a tour of York’s Chocolate Story museum. We made our own chocolate lollies and got tips for making hand-made Belgian style chocolates (expect some wonderful creations in your Christmas stockings, parents!). We then had the opportunity to explore the shops of York, including the Christmas markets in the main square. This proved to be a big hit, with some of the teenagers even forgetting to eat before meeting back at the station to catch the train home. A whirlwind trip but I suspect most will want to go back soon …
